Jhulan Goswami will share the iconic venue with Sourav Ganguly at the Eden Gardens


Former Indian Women’s National Cricket Team player Jhulan Goswami is all set to join the elite list of Bengal players. The fast bowling maestro will get one of the stands at the famous Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, named after him.

It will be Jhulan Goswami Block B gallery Eden Gardens was named after him. Newly built the stand will open on 22nd January 2025 during India Women’s first T20I against England Women’s National Cricket Team.

Goswami will be the third person to own the grandstand at the famous Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata. He will join former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya and former India captain Sourav Ganguly.

The Cricket Association of Bengal was reportedly planning to name the stand after Goswami from 2022, but was awaiting permission from the Ministry of Defense as the land belongs to defence. But permission was granted on Tuesday and the initiative was taken.

A Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official spoke about the development saying that Goswami is a legend of the game. He also announced that they have received permission and that the inauguration will take place on the day of the India-England match. He said:

“Jhulan is a legend and it was right that the stand should be named after him. Now after getting the permission, the inauguration will take place on the day of the India-England match.”

Known as the Chakdah Express, Goswami has been the best pacer in women’s cricket. She represented the Indian Women’s National Cricket Team for 20 years and achieved great things for the team with her amazing performances with the ball.

Jhulan Goswami calls time on career after playing ODI against England Women’s National Cricket Team in 2022

Goswami took a break from her career in 2022 after playing an ODI against the England Women’s National Cricket Team. She has claimed 355 wickets across all formats for the Indian Women’s National Cricket Team. Former Indian fast bowler still holds the record for most runs in women’s ODIs.

Jhulan Goswami took 44 wickets in 12 Tests, scoring 17.36 at an average of 2.02 economy. She has scored 56 wickets in the women’s T20I format at an average of 21.94 and an economy of 5.45. In the ODI format, Goswami has scored 255 runs in 204 matches at an average of 22.04.

After retirement, Julan Goswami joined Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League as a bowling coach and mentor. Apart from this, she also works as a mentor for Bengal’s senior women’s team.
