The teenager clocked 15:25 and was 7 seconds off Innes Fitzgerald’s previous mark.
Jess Bailey continued to excel at junior level after running a British under-20 5km record of 15:25 at the Adidas Running 10 Years of Podium meeting in Barrowford (November 9).
The 18-year-old, who is a European under-18 3000m silver medalist, took seven seconds off the mark Innes Fitzgerald set in Cardiff in May.
It was Bailey’s first individual competition since August. he also ran at the National Cross Country Relays earlier this month, and the teenager shined in the sprints.
Bailey went to the back of the match incredible cross country and track season.

Back in February, he finished 17th in the under-20 world championships and was part of the Great Britain team that finished fifth overall.
His summer season was equally impressive, with Bailey winning silver over 1500m at the English Schools and finishing eighth in the 3000m at the U20 World Championships in Lima, Peru.
He also finished fourth over 3000m at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games, despite missing the entire winter due to injury, and won gold at the 2022 World Mountain and Trail Championships in Thailand.
Now with trail running in the back seat, Bailey is focused on developing as an athlete over a range of distances from 1500m to 5km.

“I loved it, it was a lot of fun,” Bailey said AW:. “The atmosphere in every part of the course was crazy and to do it in front of my family was special.
“Let’s see how long the record lasts. I wasn’t thinking about the time, it was just the competition. It’s my first proper shoulder race for a while and I had an adrenaline rush that got the better of me at the end.
“I’ve been building all year and just getting stronger and stronger. I’m on the right track and there’s nothing better than going to the races and just gradually getting better. It’s about seeing how long it takes, but I’m enjoying the journey.”
Bailey was the second-fastest female athlete at the Podium 5k meet behind Hannah Nathal, who clocked 15:19.
That time was a remarkable 34 seconds faster than Nuttall’s personal best and subsequently placed her joint tenth on the all-time Great Britain 5km list.
In the elite men’s race, Belgium’s Robin Hendricks took an outstanding victory in 13:35.

The 29-year-old, who won bronze for his country at last year’s European Championships, dominated throughout and did enough to hold on for victory.
Close behind in the final stretch were Osama Meslek and Phil Seseman, who both had 5km bests of 13:37.
It was only Sezman’s fourth individual competition in a season that culminated in the Paris Olympics.
Sesemann, who ran an incredible 2:08:02 individual marathon in Seville to qualify for the Games, finished 46th in tough and testing conditions in the French capital.
After 5km in Barrowford, Sesemann, now a new father to daughter Frankie, caught up. AW: and opened up about his ultimate goals over 26.2 miles.

“I want to get down to 2:05/2:06 (in the marathon),” he said marathons. That’s what I’m trying to do!
“Seeing what Emile (Caires) does and going to camps with him where you can see his dedication up close shows you have to train to run at those levels, even if they don’t seem realistic right now. One of the best in the world you have to train to be one.”
After becoming a father, Seseman added: “Honestly, it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. It’s amazing. I absolutely love little Frankie and my partner Jess. I’ve actually had my best training since the Olympics in the last few weeks.”

In the all-star Men’s Podium 5k meet, Johnny Brownlee was 14th in 14:04, Andrew Coskoran was 17th in 14:06 and Ben Pattison was 19th in 14:07.
Another notable achievement was Kirsty Longley who ran an extraordinary W45 British 5km record of 16:23.
Not only did the 48-year-old smash her 5km personal best by 13 seconds, she was also eight seconds off her age group’s world record.
At the Podium 5k meet, many athletes, including the likes of Bailey and Seseman, ran in Adidas’ Adizero Adios Pro 4 shoes, which will be available for purchase on January 2nd.
