Jermall Charlo is training for what is believed to be his next fight, which will be on the undercard of Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Jr. will be on December 14th on PBC. First PPV at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
The 34-year-old former two-division world champion Jermall (33-0, 22 KOs) posted a video clip of him hitting the bag and looking in great shape. There is no word on who his opponent will be for the card. Charlo’s popularity is at an all time low due to his inactivity and the years since he won a quality fighter.
Jermall Tune-up for Canelo?
Even when Jermall still fought regularly, he didn’t force himself to face high-level fighters. The last major win for Jermall came in 2016 when he defeated Julian ‘J-Rock’ Williams. Aside from that fight, Jermall’s best win in eight years came against Sergiy Derevyanchenko in 2020.
A few names have been floated, but nothing has been confirmed. Given the long layoff, Jermall isn’t expected to fight anyone too well. Including him on the December 14th card is probably more about pumping up the PPV buys, as there isn’t much fan interest in the Tank vs. Roach fight not.
This card needs all the help it can get to entice fans to buy it on pay-per-view for what will likely be $74.95. This is Tank’s last fight against Frank Martin which is for sale.
Charlo hasn’t fought since he fought Jose Benavidez Jr. last year. did not return and beat him by a wide unanimous ten-round decision on November 25th. He has been out of the ring for a year and a half since his 12-round unanimous decision victory over Juan Macias Montiel on June 19, 2021.
Rumor has it that if Jermall can pull off an impressive win on December 14, he could be Canelo Alvarez’s next challenge to defend his unified super middleweight titles on May 3, 2025.
Of course, that won’t make fans happy because they want Canelo to fight relevant fighters who are active, highly ranked and beating quality opposition. Jermall doesn’t fit any of those areas. He’s not active, old, or highly ranked, and he’ll likely enter the fray after knocking over another tomato can.
