Jermall Charlo will get out of hibernation mode Once again to fight at Super Middleheight on May 31 in a PBC event in Las Vegas. He will fight on the bottom map of former IBF 168-Pond Champion Caleb plant.
Charlo (33-0, 22 costs) will be fought on 19 May 35 and has not fought in two years since he former welterweight contender Jose Benavidez jr. In 2023 did not beat. Jermall looked pretty bad at the time, with a two -year discharge, and now he is doing it again.
Before Jermall stopped fighting, he never beat the top fighters in his career at 154 and 160. He was mostly known for his victories over former GGG opponents Sergiy Derevyanchenken, Julian Williams, Austin Trout and Cornelius Bunding.
What is the purpose?
Charlo was a good fighter, but in some of his fights he took a lot of punishment and showed that he was not at the level of an outdated Gennadiy Golovkin or Canelo Alvarez. These are the two fighters he printed in his younger days when he was still active and motivated.
Now, at the age of 35 and essentially four years of inactivity, one cannot expect much from Jermall Charlo. He comes back, but the only thing he can hope for is that Canelo throws him a leg or the Riyadh season, offering him mega-million to be an opponent to someone like Terence Crawford. Hopefully, not Canelo, because no one wants to see the kind of former stimers fighting.
Lance Pugmire Report That Jermall is going to fight on the bottom map of the plant. There is no word about who Charlo is facing, but of course it will be a low-level opponent for setting. Hopefully this is someone from the 168-pound division rather than a man who is two weight classes below, as in Jermall’s last Comeback match in 2023.
This latest return does not seem promising to Charlo, but if he hopes to be offered a bundle of money to fight in one of the Riyadh season meetings, I think it’s worth it. He clearly did not win a world title at this latest age of his career. Again, it’s probably not his purpose for this return.
Any title hope?
Given Jermall’s name recognition among older fans who remember him during the best years of his career from 2016 to 2021, he may have a world title on 168 if he looks halfway decent on May 19. The Unified Super Middleweight Champion Canelo Alvarez has recently focused on taking easy opposition, and a fight against Jermall would be in his alley if he could be beaten in his comeback.
Former two divisions world champion Jermall Charlo used to be an excellent fighter and one of the biggest names in the sport. However, after a grueling battle against Juan Macias Montiel on June 19, 2021, Charlo stopped fighting for two years and was not motivated to return to the ring. He had the chance to challenge a massive payday Canelo Alvarez for his United Super Midweight titles on September 30, 2023.
Jermall chose not to take the fight because of personal problems. Instead, his twin brother, Jermell Charlo, fought for the huge payday. Interestingly, Jermell has also stopped fighting and has not seen in the ring since.
Jermall’s best career wins:
– Austin Trout
– Sergiy Derevyanchenko
-Julian ‘J-Rock-Williams
– Juan Macias Montiel
– Cornelius Bunding
– Brandon Adams
– Jose benavidez jr.
