Jermaine Franklin serves as a test of experience for Moses Itauma

Jermaine Franklin is scheduled to face undefeated British heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma on January 24 in Manchester, with the bout positioned as the next developmental assignment for the 20-year-old contender.

Franklin, 32, has previously toured with higher-profile opposition and enters the fight with experience against established names in the heavyweight division. He hasn’t relied on early breaks in recent matches and is expected to provide sustained rounds if the contest extends beyond the early stages.

In comments to The RingFranklin said he studies past heavyweight champions and older-era fights as part of his preparation. He added that his focus was on staying adaptable in the ring rather than committing to a single approach.

Itauma has moved quickly since turning professional, picking up wins in 11 of his 13 outings. His recent performances have drawn attention within the division, although he has yet to face an opponent with Franklin’s level of professional experience.

The match is not tied to a title or elimination status. Instead, it’s seen as a move designed to give Itauma additional rounds and exposure against a veteran opponent capable of maintaining tempo and composure.

The fight will take place as part of Itauma’s continued development, with Franklin serving as a benchmark rather than a divisional gatekeeper.
