Jeremiah Azu completed a golden sprint double in Birmingham

The British athlete shows that he is the consummate sprinter by winning the British indoor titles in the 60m and 200m.

after winning gold in his specialist 60m at the British Indoor Championships In Birmingham on Saturday, Jeremiah Azu returned to the Utilita Arena on Sunday (February 15) to add the 200m crown to his trophy cabinet.

Lined up on the outside, Azu looked flat down the back straight before running a strong final bend and then held off Lee Thompson, third in line, in the home straight in 20.77 to Thompson’s 21.34.

Azu wants to start doing more doubles outdoors, so this was practice for facing multiple heats and finals over two days.

“It’s time for me to become a sprinter and tackle the 60m, 100m and 200m,” said the world 60m indoor champion. “The 200m indoors is mainly for training, there’s a level of speed you get in competition that you won’t get in training. We have more time between the 60m yesterday than the 200m today, which is a bit crazy but exciting.

“It’s an honor to win medals at national level and compete against the best in Great Britain at the time. Going into Poland (World Indoors) I feel like I’m in a good place, it was three good rounds yesterday. Today’s three rounds were to be measured. I want to start doubling up outside, so this weekend was an experiment to see if I can get a load on.”

Lewis Davey also dominated the 400m as he took victory in 46.45 minutes.

Davey hasn’t been seen much indoors in recent seasons due to some antics, preferring to focus on the outdoor season during the Paris Olympic year. But he was enjoying his racing on the boards this weekend.

“The more I work, the more consistent I am and able to deliver these kinds of performances, I just hope it gets better and better,” he said.

“I feel like I’m faster, but I’ve also protected my body. I can run at a faster pace and my body has been able to handle it better.”
