Charleston – residue It is very comfortable playing both singles and doubles in numerous events.

In fact, so far this season, its double ranking in world No. 4 is actually now higher than its single ranking in world no. 25. However, 27-year-old Latvian and former Singles Champion Roland Garros 2017 has her eyes set in more glory playing solo.

On Wednesday, she took the first step in the WTA 500 Credit One Charleleton Open by defeating Louisa chirico 7-5, 6-2 to reach the third round.

The victory kidnapped a four -match single losing the belt for Ostapenko, lying again in Doha earlier this year, where she reached the final before she lost to Amanda Animova.

A few hours later, Ostrapenko joined with Erin Routliffe In the main seeds to reach the semifinal of the doubles 7-5, 6-3 in a fun win over Ekaterina Alexandrova AND Chan Hao-Ching.

“I think it’s always great to use doubles for practice because it’s a different and right match because I feel like sometimes you can play super good in practice, but then you can play a match and you can’t bring the same game in the match. I just like playing with good pairs,” Ostapenko said afterwards.

The star Latvian has enjoyed significant success in doubles this season. Which included reaching the Australian Open final with Su-Weih Hsieh before they lost to eventual champions Taylor Townsend AND Katarina Siniakova.

Ostapenko, since then, has played with some other players, but plans to join Hsih again for the Argila events in Madrid and Rome before competing in Roland Garros.

In bachelors Ostapenko can now look forward to facing protective champion Danielle Collins in the third round. Ostapenko believes she and Collins display similar styles of play and personalities.

“We have played several times,” Ostapenko told the defensive champion. “She’s a great player and also a great personality. It will be a difficult match. I think we play the same tennis style, so I think we’ll have some great rallies.”

Ostapenko also appreciates Collins and, as she describes, “her great personality”.

“It is as it is,” Ostapenko said. “It is not like trying to be someone people expect. She’s just herself and it’s the truth what she is, and I like it.”
