BCCI secretary Jay Shah was all set to take charge of the ICC from December 1. However, to ensure a smooth transition in the leadership of the ICC, it was decided to extend the tenure of current chairman Greg Barclay by one month.

The move to delay the appointment of Jay Shah as the ICC Chairman comes in view of the ongoing developments regarding the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

It is learned that the postponement of Shah’s appointment as the ICC chairman was prompted by the ongoing events related to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. As Greg Barclay oversees the Champions Trophy puzzle, he has been asked to complete the job.

It would be difficult for Jay Shah to resolve the issue immediately after taking over as the ICC chairman. Therefore, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to take over the mantle of the International Cricket Council (ICC) from next month.

Jay Shah was elected unopposed as the chairman of the ICC, serving two terms of three years each.
