Indian fast bowler Akash Deep spoke about the team’s pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Akash claimed that he is trying to follow in the footsteps of many bowlers but following in the footsteps of Jasprit Bumrah is not an easy thing.
Akash Deep has only played one Test in his career so far, when he played against England in Ranchi earlier this year.
He was impressive in this series and took the first 3 wickets with the new ball in the first innings.
However, despite a decent performance in his debut Test with Jasprit Bumrah returning for the last Test, he was dropped.
Akash Deep has been included in the Indian squad for the first Test match against Bangladesh. Although Bumrah and Siraj are the front-line performers, Akash may get a chance to feature in the series.
Akash Deep reveals why Jasprit Bumrah is tough to follow
Akash Deep recently talked about his favorite bowlers. When asked about the bowlers he follows most, he replied that he doesn’t follow any bowler, he likes to pick up different things from different bowlers.
Akash Deep said, “I don’t follow just one bowler too much. Every bowler in the world has his own movement and technique and each one is great in his own way.”
The 27-year-old quick went on to praise Jasprit Bumrah for his talent and claimed that he is unique, which makes him difficult to watch. The right-arm fast bowler also revealed that he is watching Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj.
“I follow (Kagiso) Rabada a bit and (Jasprit) Bumrah is a legend. He is hard to follow. “Bumrah bhai ko bhagwan ne alag hi bana k bheja hai (He is uniquely created by God) and I can do that. “I learn everything from him, I watch Siraj and learn from him. I pick up little things from different bowlers, but I don’t follow one bowler too much,” said Akash Deep.
In the absence of Akash Deep Mohammad Shami
Young Mohammad also talked about responsibility in Shami’s absence. Shami has been ruled out of the Indian squad due to ankle surgery earlier this year.
“It’s a big responsibility that gives me an opportunity to serve my team. Shami bhai is currently injured… I see it as a responsibility and I’m trying to live up to the faith the selectors and the BCCI management have placed in me,” he added.
Akash Deep thanks Rohit Sharma
Akash Deep also thanked India captain Rohit Sharma for making it easy for him in his debut Test match. He added that Rohit was handling everything so well that it looked like a normal match and he could have played without any pressure.
“I played my first match in Ranchi under the management of Rohit bhaiya. I was thinking how difficult it would be to make my debut match in the country. There is something special about him – I didn’t feel it when I played the first game. I was playing for India,” said Akash Deep.
“He manages things very well, talks in a way that puts you at ease and gives simple plans that make cricket easy. Playing under him is a matter of luck for any cricketer,” he said.
Akash Deep recently played the opening round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 where he recorded figures of 4-60 and 5-56 in both innings.
He showed good form before the series against Bangladesh and managed to get a game in one of the two Tests against Bangladesh.
Akash is an experienced bowler in the inner circle and has experience bowling long overs. In first-class cricket, he has so far taken 116 wickets in 32 matches at an average of 22.86.
