Jasprit Bumrah to miss IPL 2026? The MI star’s visit to the Council of Europe raises questions

A few days before the opening of IPL 2026, Mumbai Indians (MI) they face unexpected uncertainty. Their speed is ahead jasprit bumrah He has approached BCCI’s Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru and with no official announcement yet, fans are worried about his availability for the start of the season.

The situation has become a concern mainly due to Bumrah’s absence from the recently held Mumbai Indians team event called ‘The Mix’. While key players like Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma were present, Bumrah was nowhere to be seen. Instead, reports suggest he’s headed to CE – a facility known for rehabilitation and performance monitoring.

What makes this development more interesting is the lack of clarity. Neither the BCCI nor the Mumbai Indians management has confirmed whether Bumrah is injured or just undergoing a routine physical. This uncertainty has fueled speculation, especially when MI will face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on March 29.

Earlier, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene had revealed that the players were present India’s T20 World Cup winning campaign additional rest was given.

“Every year our aim is to get there (to win the IPL trophy). But I know it’s a long season. So the pre-season will start the way we usually start, working hard, getting the new guys into training. And with our (T20) World Cup guys, we’ve given them a bit of an extended break so they can join us next weekend,” Jayawardene said.

While this may explain the late arrival, it does not fully explain why Bumrah is currently in the EAC instead of contacting the squad. Of course, this has led to widespread speculation. Many believe it could just be a precaution after his heavy workload, especially considering his spectacular performance in the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand where he delivered the match-winning spell.

For now, the silence of the official channels keeps everyone guessing.

Why is Bumrah’s presence so important for Mumbai Indians?

The concern about Bumrah isn’t just about one player missing the game – it’s about the backbone of Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack. His numbers in IPL 2025 highlight why his presence is so important. He took 18 wickets in just 12 matches, while maintaining an astonishing economy rate of 6.67 – an extraordinary feat in a format dominated by high-scoring games.

Bumrah is not just another bowler; he is MI’s main option in every phase – new ball, medium passes and death. His ability to deliver under pressure makes him invaluable. Even with quality pacers like Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar in the squad, replicating Bumrah’s unique skill set is almost impossible.

Like everything, MI fans are waiting for the official update. It remains to be hoped that Bumrah’s visit to the AC is just a precautionary measure before he fully settles into the squad. But till the confirmation comes, the question remains – will MI have the biggest match winner ready when IPL 2026 starts?
