Mumbai Indians retained Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik PandyaSuryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharmaand Tilak Varma ahead of auctions. Bumrah was retained for INR 18 crore, Pandya and Suryakumar for INR 16.35 crore, Rohit for INR 16.30 crore and Tilak Varma for INR 8 crore.

Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav would get INR 25 crore – Aakash Chopra
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra claimed that Mumbai Indians have done a great job in convincing their players to be retained ahead of the auction. He claimed that players like Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav would have fetched INR 25 crore if they had auctioned their names.
“What they have done is absolutely remarkable because Jasprit Bumrah would have fetched 25 crores if he had gone to the auction. If any franchise had said they wanted 25 crores, everyone would have given him 25 crores and I am sure other franchises would have approached him,” Chopra said.
Jasprit Bumrah is undoubtedly the best bowler in the IPL in the last few years. The fast bowler is a true keeper and also an exceptional death bowler. Bumrah’s stock has risen in the last few years and he has gotten better every season.
“No ego” – Aakash Chopra on Suryakumar Yadav
Chopra also praised Suryakumar Yadav for not showing any ego despite knowing that he is not the captain of the team. Hardik Pandya, who was the captain of Mumbai Indians last season, has been retained for the upcoming season as well.
“They would also approach him and Suryakumar Yadav because he is not even the captain. Hardik (Pandya) is the captain and Suryakumar Yadav is the captain of the Indian T20I team,” Chopra noted.
“So there is no ego. He is ready to play for this franchise and 16.35 crores. He would have got 25 crores if he had said he wants to go to the auction and captain another team,” he said. .
Suryakumar Yadav – Potential captain candidate
Apart from being a destructive T20 batsman, Suryakumar is also a potential captaincy candidate. He is currently India’s T20I captain, but MI have again shown faith in Hardik to lead the team.
Mumbai Indians have already spent INR 75 crore after retaining all these five players. INR 45 crores left for their IPL 2025 auction. The five-time IPL champions had one of their worst seasons in IPL 2024 and will look to bounce back this time.
