Jasprit Bumrah broke Bishan Singh Bedi’s record in an away series
Jasprit Bumrah set a new benchmark for the most wickets by an Indian bowler in an away Test series, eclipsing Bishan Singh Bedi’s record of 31 wickets from the 1977-78 tour of Australia. Bumrah was unable to bowl on the final day of the fifth Test due to back spasms in which India suffered a 6-wicket loss.
Australia were 162 runs behind to secure victory. The defeat eliminated India from contention for the World Test Championship final between Australia and South Africa in June.
Bumrah played 45 Tests and took 205 wickets, including 13 five-wicket hauls. He is expected to take a short break before the upcoming series against England ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.
