Captain of the Indian National Cricket Team Rohit Sharma Sarhad-Gavaskar has decided to play the first test of the Trophy 2024-25.
Designated Vice-Captain in absence of Rohit Sharma, jasprit bumrahwill lead the Indian team in the first Test in Perth, scheduled to begin on November 22.

Devdutt Paddikal asked to stay in the Test squad
Rohit Sharma did not travel to Australia with Team India and stayed in Mumbai to be with his family on the birth of his second child, a boy.
The Sharma family welcomed a baby boy on November 15 and it was expected that the Indian captain would immediately leave for Australia to play in the first Test.
However, according to a recent report by Indian Express, Rohit Sharma has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he needs more time with his wife.
With Rohit Sharma announced his unavailability and Shubman Gill Devdutt Paddikala, who is on tour with the India A team, has been told by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee to stay in Australia, ruled out of the first Test due to a broken thumb.
The young prodigy, who has already played Test cricket for India, will be added to the starting line-up in Rohit Sharma’s absence.

According to the Indian Express, the selectors of the Board of Control for Cricket in India were hoping that Rohit Sharma would feature in his first Test match, but the Indian captain had other plans.
Rohit will be able to participate in the second test match to be held in Adelaide from December 6.
“We were hoping that he (Rohit) would travel but he has informed the BCCI that he cannot go now as he needs more time. He will fly to Australia for the pink ball Test match, the second match. There is a gap of nine days between the first and second Test matches in Adelaide , so Rohit will be there in time,” a BCCI official confirmed.

Speaking on his official YouTube channel recently, Akash Chopra Congratulations to Rohit Sharma and Ritika Sajdeh on their second child.
Chopra, however, urged Rohit Sharma to play in the Perth match, while pointing out that he has missed 12 overseas Tests after taking on the role of opener.
“So Rohit Sharma, first of all congratulations on your new addition to your family. We are very happy about it. Now please go and play in Perth.
“The other thing is that he has dropped 12 and played only 10 since he started to open in test matches overseas and we have to put that record straight, he should have bowled more and run less. That’s what we want.” he said
