Promoter Eddie Hearn says Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis’s perfect weight is “160” Rather than 154. He mentions that Ennis (34-0, 30 COs) can now go middle weight and be in his ‘absolute lead’.

Hearn see Ennis’s real prime weight
Ennis makes his debut on 154 this Saturday, October 11 against Uuis Lima (14-1, 10 COs) in the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. Former IBF and WBA welterweight champion Ennis was forced to move up from 147 because he reduced the returns after spending his entire career at that weight.
If Ennis is now moving to the middleweight, he would be in a position to fight these guys:
- Terence crawford
- Carlos Adames: WBC champion
- Erislandy Lara: WBA
- Janibek Alimkhanuly: IBF and WBO
“I think the perfect weight for boots is 160. I think he could go there now and be in his absolute lead, ”promoter Eddie Hearn told the media Today about Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is still not at his ideal weight from 147 to 154. “He will be stiff tomorrow at 154 (at the weigh -in).”
It is clear from looking at what an ‘boots’ endnis this week in cutting the weight looks that the 154-pound section is not its optimal weight class. He will not be at his best fight at junior middleweight because he is too big for this section.
Why fit 160 ‘boots’ better than 154
“People think when you get up in weight, it’s suddenly easy,” Hearn says. “He’s massive. He will rise 100% to 168 at some point. So, there has a four-division championship. I don’t just want him to be a champion of four divisions. ‘
Ennis had to fight in the middleweight years ago instead of draining himself to the point where he looked like a zombie. Moving to 154 was a long transition, but it is not where he should be. He is now approaching 29 and attracts weight.
The long road to undisputed at 154
Hearn says he wants him to be undisputed at 154 before going up to 160. This is not a good idea as it can take at least two years and Ennis to achieve it.
If Hearn tries to follow ‘boots’ in the same footsteps of Terence Crawford by becoming an undisputed champion in three divisions, it’s a waste of time. Crawford had it easy Because the belts were already rounded off at 147 and 168.
If he had to win them separately, he probably would have stopped or beaten the time. Winning titles held by Osleys Iglesias or Christian Mbilli would probably have been too much for 38-year-old Crawford. Ennis must forget about the investment of time to be undisputed at 154 and instead focus on moving to 160 to get the biggest battles in that weight class.
At 160, “boots” would be in Crawford’s orbit and pressed him on a fight. Even if the fight does not occur, he can chase the champions and attract fighters from 154 to come to 160 to fight against him.
“I want him to be undisputed, because I think he is the natural successor to Terence Crawford. I think he has the same ability as Crawford because he was undisputed in three weight classes,” says Hearn.
How Ennis Compare to Young Crawford
Ennis’s fighting style is much more fan -friendly than Crawford, because he is more a forefooter who attacks his opponents. Crawford has always been a counter-puncher waiting passively like a spider. He also moved a lot when he was younger, and still uses a reasonable amount now that he approaches 40.
