Atlantic City, New Jersey-Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (34-0, 30 COs) captured the crown by successfully defeating Eimantas Stanionis (15-1, 9 COs) in a masterful performance at the iconic Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Boots, as linear champion, now hold the IBF, WBA and Ring Magazine titles. He hopes to become an undisputed champion by following the other two divisional champions in Mario Barrios, who holds the WBC title, and Brian Norman Jr., who is the WBO champion.
Ennis showed its speed and velocity early, overwhelming stanionis with a high work rate and easily evading his push. Stanionis’s production was very anemic because he struggled to land anything of real importance. Eimantas struggled with Jaron’s side movement.
He threw only 185 strokes over 6 rounds while boots threw 424 strokes and landed 32.8 percent of his power punch (65/198). It was in the 5th round where boots began to exert its dominance, landed a battle with 19 strokes and in the process gave Stanionis a bloody nose. Then, in the 6th round, he landed a barrage of bumps and sent eimantas to the canvas. At the end of the round, coach Marvin Somodio informed the referee that he had stopped the fight, which caused his fighter further damage.
At the press conference after the fight, Jaron’s father, Derek Ennis, said he agreed with Somodio stopped the fight. He felt that Stanionis was taking a lot of punishment and thought that boots would eventually beat him. Boots also addressed his critics and the rumors that he is struggling to make weight at 147 pounds. He said he gained weight from Tuesday and made weight easy. With the victory, Boots and Eddie Hearn now seem to be directing their efforts to an undisputed championship run, which can start against Brian Norman Jr..
Eddie made a pitch for the battle with the Perser and said that they could set it up in the Wells Fargo Center at some point in the summer if Norman and his team are willing to accept. Eddie noted that Brian’s last struggle was the fellow head event at the Mikaela Mayer-Sandy Ryan card was on a smaller venue in the Fontainebleau Live Theater and for a significantly lower payday than Boots had just earned.
As Brian Norman jr. Decide that he wants to fight boots, he can do it, for a career payment and in front of a larger audience, emphasizes Hearn. Ennis believes that Norman does not really want to fight against him and that he is simply talking about the fight on social media for Clout. He also referred to a gym session they had, where he implied that he became the better of Norman. After convincingly defeating Stanionis, boots are now holding the cards and can create a great battle
with whom are willing to accept the challenge. He placed himself on the welterweight section.
