Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis team fought four fighters for its fight in October. Most of the names are disappointing. Promoter Eddie Hearn has already revealed that Josh Kelly is one they made an offer. However, Kelly said it was a low -ball offer.
Boots’ unnecessary fight against
Fans do not understand why Ennis (34-0, 30 COs) would need a setup because of the hype behind his career. He must be able to jump in the 154 pound division immediately and start fighting against the top guys. That’s what Terence Crawford did at the ripe age of 36 last year against Israil Madrimov. It almost cost him, but he still did it.
The Jaron Ennis opponent list
- Rashidi Ellis: Ellis (27-1, 18) has still won his last fighting at low-level opposition since losing against Roiman Villa in 2023. This choice has no sense of boots to fight because he is not a junior middleweight. It defeats the purpose of using him as a setup to accommodate himself to the 154 pound division unless it really is to get an easy payday.
- Charles Conwell: Of the four, Conwell (27-1, 16 COs) is probably the most talented one of the bunch, but he also has a loss to Jorge Garcia. It seems bad on Ennis’s side to fight against a man who just lost. It may not be that Ennis wet his feet in the 154-pound section.
- Josh Kelly: We already know that this struggle does not happen. Kelly and his team were made and rejected. Hearn pointed out that Kelly got some money from the Riyadh season, and he was questionable about his chances of this battle for Ennis. It would be a poor choice anyway.
- Andreas Katzourakis: Katzourakis, unbeaten with a record of 16-0, has a recent victory over Brandon Adames. He is not a good choice if the goal is to prepare Ennis to fight like Vergil Ortiz Jr.

Why do Ennis need a tune-up?
The problem with Ennis taking a setup is that his entire career was nothing but warm -up fights against fewer fighters without once acting to fight better opposition.
