Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis signals return soon for “road to 33-0”

Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis posted on social media that he plans to return to the ring to get his 33rd win before his next fight.

Undefeated IBF welterweight champion Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs) has not said who his opponent will be, but his promoter, Eddie Hearn, has already mentioned that he plans to stay at 147 to capture all the titles.

Hearn said he would speak to the IBF’s mandatory Karen Chukhadzhian management about where to take the fight with Boots. He wants it to be in Philadelphia, where Ennis, 27, draws large crowds at the Well Fargo Center. However, Hearn is not saying the plan if Karen’s promoters reject that idea and insist on setting it in Germany.

Despite the high praise Hearn gives Ennis, he surprisingly lost his recent purse bid for his commitment to Karen. Some believe that Hearn would never have lost a purse of this if his flagship fighter, Anthony Joshua, had made a defense against anyone.

It’s not a shock that Ennis will stay at 147 because he gets hit a lot, and the fighters in the 154 will be dangerous for him. He had a tough time beating the slugger Roiman Villa last July, taking a lot of heavy shots throughout the fight until he knocked him out in the tenth round.

Even in Boots Ennis’ last fight against fringe contender David Avanesyan, he was heavily punished before knocking him out in the sixth. Moving up to 154 would be a risk for Ennis because he might not have the same results.

We just saw how vulnerable Terence Crawford looks, moving up to 154 last August in Los Angeles. Obviously, some of that is Crawford’s age and inactivity, but he was more bothered by his opponent’s strength and size. Ennis will face the same problems if he moves up to 154. He doesn’t have to worry about power in his next fight against Karen, who is a light puncher who moves around the ring a lot.
