Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis thinks that the weight from 154 to 168 will make it difficult for Terence Crawford to conquer against Canelo Alvarez on Saturday, September 13.
The Switch hit Ennis works with Canelo (63-2-2, 39 COs) as one of his sparring partners to help him train for his defense of his undisputed super-middleweight championships against Crawford (41-0, 31 cost) at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
The power ‘boots’ saw
‘Boots’ saw firsthand how powerful and talented Canelo is. So, he knows what Crawford, 37, oppose in this fight and jumps on what many people believe is three weight classes, not two. It’s drastic.
A point man’s risky mission
It’s like going straight to the leading countries out of the boot camp and ordering to be the Puntman in a platoon. This puts Crawford straight into the fire, and he is not young on almost 38. In video clips of Terence Training for Canelo, he appear Haggard, with bags under both eyes. If I would guess Crawford’s age of his appearance, I would say 40. The year of inactivity, along with a cruel training camp, recorded him.
“It’s a big leap to go from 154 to 168,” Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis tells Fighting typeTalk about Bud Crawford who arrives two weight classes from junior middleweight to super -middle weight to challenge Canelo Alvarez for his four titles on 168.
Crawford was working on Welterweight from 2018 to 2023 before moving up to the junior middleweight (154 pounds) on August 3, 2024, for one fight against Israil Madrimov. He took a long break after his narrow 12-round victory over Madrimov.
Terence could live to regret Do this, because he must have stayed active. Being inactive over the past 13 months can result in a loss of sharpness for Crawford. In contrast, Canelo remained active the previous year and fought three times against these fighters:
- William Scull: May 3, 2025
- Edgar Blangka: September 14, 2024
- Jaime Munguia: May 4, 2024.
Crawford’s chance, though slim
‘I’m going to say 60-40 Canelo or 70-30. He was already fighting bigger guys. So, he is, as used to being weight,. So I would lean more to Canelo. But I think Crawford would have a chance, but I would lean more to Canelo, ‘says’ Boots’ Ennis.
