The Norwegian superstar will run over 13.1 miles in the Danish capital just two days after winning the Diamond League 1500m.
The conversation is over. Jakob Ingebrigtsen will run the half-marathon in Copenhagen (September 15), and the anticipation could not be higher.
Ingebrigtsen will make his debut just two days after going over 13.1 miles winning the 1500m in the Diamond League final in Brussels.
The Norwegian will enter the unknown and the Copenhagen leg will be the longest competitive race of his career.
Ingebrigtsen does have a 10km personal best of 27:54, which is still the European Under-20 record, but that was set back in 2019.
“I’m looking forward to testing myself in the half marathon for the first time in Copenhagen,” said Ingebrigtsen. “Normally this is a distance that would suit my training very well, but after a long season working up the track to 1500m, it’s exciting to see if I can even get to the finish line.”
For days, rumors swirled that Ingebrigtsen would make her Copenhagen half marathon debut.
Throughout the Brussels Diamond League, including both in the press conference and in the mixed zone, the 23-year-old kept his cards close to his chest.

After claiming the 1500m crown, Ingebrigtsen teased that his 2024 campaign isn’t quite over, posting on Instagram:
The Norwegian has spoken of his ambitions to set up to 10 world records in his career, which essentially means everything from the 1500m to the marathon.
Jacob Kiplimo’s 2021 half-marathon world record of 57:31 may have to wait a few years, but Julien Wanders’ European mark of 59:13 from 2019 could be a target.

“When an Olympic gold medalist chooses to run in Copenhagen, it’s because the city, the course and the audience offer something special,” said Dorte Vibjerg, CEO of Sparta Athletics & Running.
“It’s a great opportunity to offer spectators and participants to experience such an icon as Jakob Ingebrigtsen in a duel with both the world champion and the world record holder in the half marathon. For us, this highlights why the Copenhagen Half Marathon was completed in record time and why Copenhagen has been chosen to host the World Championships in 2026.”
