The Norwegian hopes to end an injury-plagued year by winning his fourth senior title at the Dec. 14 event in Lagoa.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen had a disappointing summer. Battling Achilles problems, he was unable to run on the Diamond League circuit and was eliminated in the 1500m at the World Championships in Tokyo before finishing 10th in the 5000m final.
He has clearly returned to better training this fall, however, as he has been named to Norway’s squad for the Dec. 14 European Championships in Lagoa, Portugal.
Currently, the Olympic 5,000-meter champion is training high up in the Sierra Nevada and, according to videos on his social media channels, he’s carefully stepping up his heavy sessions in an effort to avoid re-aggravating his Achilles. She also recently had her tonsils removed to minimize her chances of getting sick during critical periods in the future.
If he wins gold in Portugal, the 25-year-old will become the third four-time winner of the senior men’s race in Eurocross history, after Ukraine’s Sergey Lebid and Portugal’s Paulo Guerra, who have won nine and four senior titles respectively.
In total, Ingebrigtsen won seven individual Euro Cross titles. He won four consecutive under-20 gold medals between 2016 and 2019, before stepping up to the under-23 group to win his first senior crown in 2021.
Ingebrigtsen’s 2025 campaign got off to a great start with wins in the 1500m and 3000m at the European and World Indoor Championships, plus world records in the 1500m (3:29.63) and mile (3:45.14).
