The World Series is well underway between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers as they battle to become champions.

The remaining 28 MLB teams could be watching as they prepare for another blowout in 2025.

The San Diego Padres were one of the teams that did not make it to the World Series.

Padres star rookie Jackson Merrill shared his thoughts on the World Series game.

“I wish it was me. I wish I could do that. I wish it was the Padres on the field,” Merrill said.

The Padres trail the Dodgers in the National League Division Series in five games.

Any player this close to a World Series would likely feel how Merrill feels, but he does appreciate the incredible matchup between the Yankees and Dodgers.

In his first MLB season, Merrill was selected to represent the Padres in the All-Star Game after putting up exceptional numbers.

He hit .292 with 24 home runs, 90 runs batted in and an .826 on-base and season slugging percentage.

Merrill also pitched well in his first postseason as he had six hits in 24 at-bats with one home run, one triple, one double and five runs scored.

The Padres will look to contend for their first National League West title since 2006 as they prepare for the 2025 season.

They will also be seeking their first World Series championship in franchise history after falling short in 2024.
