Jack Sheiler wins Wokingham semi-final

DAVID CLIFF WOKINGHAM HALF MARATHON, Berkshire, 22 February

In his debut over the distance, Jack Shailer, the 2023 BUCS No. 5 cross-country finisher, won in 65:43 overall.

The 26-year-old held off Ben Robinson, who won last weekend’s Gloucester League Cross Country, who finished second in 66:22.

Chelsea Baker added to the women’s race in 74:09, knocking a second off her previous best set in Swansea last summer.

In the women’s field, Alice Braham took 19 seconds off the time set here two years ago with a British Masters W50 best of 77:48.

Previous W60 contender Sarah Gee went one time to beat Elspeth Turner’s 82:42, the British best, but fell short. He said: “I ran an 82:40 pace until mile 10, but I realized I couldn’t keep it up until the end.”

Gee then pulled back to finish in 84:29.

Daisy Glover won the 10-mile overall, taking three minutes off the women’s course record of 54:53.

It was the 34-year-old from Framlingham’s debut over the distance and followed a sixth-place finish at the UK Cross Challenge on Parliament Hill two weeks ago.

Lucy Reid just missed out on second place overall, although more than five minutes behind overall winner Dillon Hobbs, but the women’s division won by nearly 10 minutes in 74:41.

It was the 33-year-old’s first outing of the year, following on from 69:13 in Manchester in October and 2:26:35 in Malaga in mid-December.
