Jack Rowe runs a fast 28:02 to win the 10km at Telford

The British distance runner is now fifth on the all-time UK 10km list after his run in the Shropshire town.

Jack Rowe edged out Phil Sezman in the Telford 10km, shaving 5 seconds off his personal best in 28:02 (14 Dec).

The Aldershot and Farnham athlete’s previous fastest time was 28:07, which he clocked in Manchester three years ago.

Rowe’s 28:02 was not only the fastest time by a Briton over 10km this season, but also took him fifth on the UK all-time list over the distance.

It was Rowe’s fourth major win of the autumn road season, following wins at the Big Half, Vitality London 10,000 and Manchester Half Marathon.

It’s been quite a season for Rowe, who posted personal bests in the 1500m, 3000m, 5000m and 10,000m.

He also finished 17th at the European Championships over 5000m and then finished third at the British Athletics Championships over the distance.

Meanwhile, Sesemann clocked 28:08 in Telford, just short of his 10km best of 28:26 set at the Corrida Pédestre Internationale de Houilles in France five years ago.

Kadar Omar was third in 28:34 with his Birchfield Harriers teammate Aron Gebremariam fourth in 28:58.

It was Ghebremariam’s first ever 10km and the England National Junior Cross Country Champion did well.

It was a much closer affair in the women’s field, with Amelia Quirk beating Sarah Astin by just three seconds.

Quirk, who won the England national cross-country crown in 2020 and is a regular in the British long-distance teams, clocked 32:40.

The Bracknell AC athlete rarely runs on the roads and this was only her second outing over 10km, with Quirk’s previous best being 31:53 from Valencia last year.

Natasha Phillips ran 32:56 for third place, making her top of the British under-20 rankings this season and fourth on the all-time junior list, after being pipped by Bournemouth’s Ethiopian Atsede Gidei.

Teenager Holly Widall also set a personal best of 33:21, improving on her 33:58 in Telford last year.
