In recent years, Jack Nicklaus has not been the one to keep his thoughts, especially in his Memorial. And on LIVE TV during last week’s event at Muirfield villageNicklaus, who is 85, expressed his strong concern about a new Golf-TV innovation: Walk-and Talk interview.
And he emphasized his contempt with a funny prediction of what the legend of the friend Ben Hogan Would have done if a reporter had approached him on the course during a tour.

During the second round of Friday’s memorial, Nicklaus joined the Golf Channel TV booth as he often does in the tournament.
But in the midst of this appearance, Golf Channel decided to conduct a walk and talk interview with co-leader Ben Griffin. They may have repented of this.

Why? Because just finished the mid -Griffin interview, Great champion 18 times lit in controversial format.
“I can’t stand this, the interview in the Golf Course,” Nicklaus said before repeating himself. “I can’t bear it.”
His original comment attracted unpleasant laughter from Golf Channel’s notifiers in the cabin. Then Nicklaus pulled out his feelings.
“Let me tell you how I think, how I feel,” Nicklaus said. “I mean, seriously, here is a guy who is leading the golf tournament, he just hits at the fierce end, he has a very hard blow in a very hard hole, and you are talking to him about things that completely distort from what he did.”
He then asked Golf Channel analysts to imagine how Ben Hogan would react if he approached to do a walk and talk interview.
“How would you think (Ben) Hogan would answer this question?” Nicklaus asked.
But before anyone could answer, Nicklaus answered the question themselves, suggesting any reporter who did so would endanger their safety.
“You wouldn’t have had teeth if you were to do,” Nicklaus said. “(Hogan would hit you straight in the face with him.”
Mixed reactions to the middle PGA Tour interviews
Given a suggestion from other prospects that began practice years ago, the PGA Tour debuted between round interviews and conversations during the 2023 season. The reaction was mixed.
Max Homa was the first player to be involved in Open Farmers Open 2023. He continued to win the title that week, suggesting that the interview did not adversely affect his game.
But after one Interview for walks and conversations in 2023 mastersHoma admitted that he was somewhat distracted.
“Likes how to be in a call for 10 minutes. It’s not the end of the world,” Homa said. “It can be an attractive shade, but I think if it’s 5 percent distraction and it’s 95 percent positive something for golf, I can pass it.”
A year after his on foot debut and chat on farmers, Homa defended the controversial practice again.

Like Rory Mcilroy, Max Homa was stuck in a masked television moment
“I think at least walking and conversation was something dangerous and different, but I think it turned out quite well,” he told the 2024 farmers. “I’m sure there are other changes we could make, but only generally I think it’s some kind of direction at least, I will just talk about myself, I would like to see Golf.
Not everyone is felt the same way.
In an interview after the 2023 masters, where Rory Mcilroy agreed for his first foot interview and conversation, Ex -manager of Mcilroy Chubby Chandler It suggested that the interview was one of the many reasons Mcilroy fought to win the masters. Chandler also claimed that Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus would never have agreed to do the mid -round interview in Augusta, as Mcilroy had.
Nick Faldo admitted he was “shocked” by Mcilroy’s decision.
Two years later, Mcilroy finally won a green jacket to finish his Grand Slam career, becoming only the sixth golf player in history to do so.
An essential unanswered question about the PGA Tour Walk interviews and the conversation is whether golf fans enjoy them. After all, it is likely that TV viewers’ opinions will determine the fate of Golf-TV innovation.
