The final hours of the summer transfer window promise to be as frantic as they come, with Victor Osimhen’s moves expected to have a knock-on effect elsewhere.
The story of the Nigerian hitman has dominated the entire window, but here we are in the final day and there is still no decision on where exactly the player will end up.
A game of brinksmanship that seems to have been played out all summer could blow up in the player’s face, although the option to join Chelsea is still on the table.
Chelsea have options if Osimhen doesn’t sign
The Blues appear to have been favorites for his signature throughout, but they have certainly left things late if they are to secure what is proving to be a very difficult deal.
There could still be a twist in the tail, of course, but in that eventuality, Chelsea have an alternative option.
“For Ivan Toney, he remains a strong option for Al Ahli if Osimhen goes to Chelsea.” Fabrizio Romano he told CaughtOffside for his exclusive daily briefing.
“Or it could be an option for Chelsea if Osimhen goes to Al Ahli. As of Thursday night nothing is clear and we have to be patient and see what happens.
“There may be surprises.”
It is clear that Chelsea will have to work hard and fast to land offers for Osimhen or Toney before the deadline.
For the former, he seems to have always been clear that he will leave Napoli this summer and there is no doubt expected to be a queue of suitors.
Should Chelsea pull out of any deal, it will leave a player in his prime essentially to move to the Saudi Pro League, the 68th best in the world according to TeamForm.
