Jamie Redknapp has spoken out against the decision to show Bruno Fernandes a red card for his tackle on James Maddison on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils had a disastrous first half at Old Trafford against Tottenham Hotspur, which ended with a straight red card for their captain.
Going into the match, it was incredibly difficult to predict which team would come out on top with their records so far almost identical, but with United playing at home, Erik ten Hag’s men had a slight advantage.
But the home advantage didn’t seem to have any effect on the Red Devils as they repeatedly fumbled the ball and stalled.
It didn’t take long for Spurs to punish them for that as defender Mickey van de Ven went all over his team before squaring the ball for Brennan Johnson.
With the Ten Hag team trying to claw their way back into the tie, disaster struck which greatly affected their chances of completing a comeback.
Fernandes was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Maddison’s knee just before the half-time whistle.

Speaking in the Sky Sports studio at half-time, Redknapp sympathized with the Portuguese midfielder saying he believed he unfortunately went down.
“No, he slips when he goes in to try and win the challenge. He’s mean, he was a bit petulant. Get your right leg out.” Said the former Spurs midfielder.
“When you actually see it in slow motion, his feet go under him and he just sticks his leg out, I think it’s a yellow card.”
