A bowling legend of the Indian National Cricket Team Harbhajan Singh has a supportive captain Rohit Sharma Continuing as the team’s highest-order batsman in Test cricket.
Harbhajan Singh said Rohit Sharma should not move to the middle order and he should continue to open or take the No. 3 spot in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

KL Rahul opened with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Perth Test
The Indian skipper missed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 opening match against the Australian team due to the birth of his second child.
In his absence, jasprit bumrah In the Perth Test, he opened the team along with KL Rahul along with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Rahul, who was under pressure going into the match, stunned everyone with his excellent performance with the bat.
Rahul batted exceptionally well and scored 74 off 26 runs in the first innings before being controversially given out. In the second innings, he looked even better and scored 77 runs off 176 balls as he shared a sensational stand of 201 with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
KL Rahul’s performance has led to calls for him to continue as the team’s opener, especially with the Indian skipper’s lack of form in his side.
Rohit Sharma batted against Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI at No.4 in India
Rohit Sharma joined the team midway through the Perth Test and then featured in the pink-ball one-day match against Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra.

Rohit not being named as the opener was a sign that a major change in the batting order was on the cards. As the Indian innings started in Canberra, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal once again opened the innings and did a great job.
The duo complimented each other very well and were seen sitting in the middle, especially Rahul. Returning from a thumb injury, Shubman Gill batted at number 3 and was followed by Rohit Sharma at number 4, which is Virat Kohli’s place in the Test team. Notably, Kohli did not play a tour game and decided to train with Jasprit Bumrah in the sidelines.
Meanwhile, Rohit initially looked decent in the middle but got out while chasing the fifth stump ball. He managed to score just 3 runs from 11 balls.
I don’t see Rohit coming at number five or six – Harbhajan Singh
As speculation mounts over Rohit Sharma batting at No. 5 or No. 6 in the next four Test matches against Australia, Harbhajan Singh has shared his thoughts on the matter.
Speaking to PTI, Harbhajan said that Rohit should continue as a top-order batsman and his shift to the middle order would not benefit the team.
“I don’t see Rohit coming at number five or six. Either Rohit will bat with Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul at number three or no later than number three,” Harbhajan Singh told PTI on the sidelines. The opening ceremony of the World Tennis League.
“No six for Rohit would not be in the best interest of the team. In the batting order, your top four should be four columns and someone like Rohit at the top would add a bigger figure,” added Harbhajan Singh.
