The undercard for the December 21 Fury-Usyk 2 event is extremely weak, but the Madrimov vs. Bochuk fight could make it worth tuning in for fans.
Both fighters, Madrimov and Bohachuk, are coming off losses in fights they could have easily won. Former WBA junior middleweight champion Madrimov (10-1-1, 7 KOs) lost his last fight against Terence Crawford on August 3, losing by a close 12-round unanimous decision.
If Madrimov let his hands go more and didn’t clinch constantly in the last three rounds, he would have beaten Crawford. It was a rookie mistake for Madrimov, and he blew his chance to upset the popular fighter, who fans feel is a legend.
Former WBC interim champion Bohachuk (26-2, 23 KOs) is coming off a short 12-round majority decision against Vergil Ortiz Jr. lost on August 10 at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
Bohachuk erred by not pushing the fight harder in the last three rounds when Vergil Jr. took the fight outside to box. Bohachuk’s coach must have noticed what Ortiz Jr. was doing. doing and told him to attack because it was obvious what Vergil was doing.
He was out in rounds one through nine and was taking too much punishment and would steal the fight through boxing. It looked like he was still losing, but the judges gave it to him. Ortiz Jr. was the A team, so it wasn’t a surprise that he got the win.
Madrimov-Bohachuk could top the main event between an aging former WBC heavyweight champion, Fury, and WBA/WBC/WBO champion Usyk. Fury is quite old and doesn’t have the fight he once had in him to entertain.
