Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz wins interim WBC Light Welterweight title, calls out Subriel Matias

Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz wants an immediate title against Subriel Matias for his WBC Light Welterweight Belt after capturing the 140 -pound interim belt with the organization last Saturday, and the replacement opponent Omar Salcido with a unanimous 10 -round decision in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Cruz vs. Matias: Title shot?

Matias recently defeated WBC champion Alberto Puello, 140 pounds, by a 12-round majority decision on July 12 in Queens to become the new belt holder. However, Turki Alalshikh has already announced that Matias will defend Dalton Smith in November against #1 WBC contender. So, let Pitbull Cruz wait until 2026 to get the chance to fight the winner of the Matias against Smith.

Pitbull’s Zepeda-like style

Cruz (28-3-1, 18 food) has like a smaller, less comprehensive version of William Zepedawhich dominates the late sub-salcido (20-3, 14 COs) with high output. The scores were 100-88, 99-89 and 99-89. Pitbull fights a lot like Zepeda, but not as skilled as he does, nor does he have the same production.

It was a strong performance by Pitbull, taking into account the level of his opponent. Cruz does not have to deal with his Kryptonite, a pure boxer, as we saw in his loss of Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela last August.

Rayo made Cruz look bad, surpassing him all night and eliminating effortlessly. If Pitbull wants to avenge the loss, it will be a good time to fight against Rayo because he will not get the title shot he is looking for against Matias soon.

Cruz: “I’m a world champion”

“Now again, I can say I’m a world champion,” Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz says to the media Last Saturday night after beating replacement opponent Omar Salcido to win the WBC -Tuss -Engineer Light Welterweight title.

“It would be something that people look forward to the rivalry in Mexico against Puerto Rico,” Pitbull Cruz said he wanted to challenge Subriel Matias for his WBC 140-pound title. “I’m sure it would be a struggle that the fans would love, and a rivalry enjoyed by everyone.”
