Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz could fight against Angel Fierro on the bottom map of Manny Pacquiao in July against Mario Barrios. The event has yet to be confirmed. Cruz (27-3-1, 18 cost) defeated Fierro (27-3-2, 18) earlier this year with a ten round unanimous decision, with a scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94. There would be a re -broadcast because some box fans were of the opinion that it was a controversial result.
FIERRO again?
I watched the fight and won cruz 9-1. There was no controversy. The only question about the standings is why the judges had it so close. Pitbull dominated the battle, but the judges gave him no credit for the body shots he landed throughout. Fans prefer to see Cruz fighting against someone else, such as WBA lights welterweight champion Gary Antuanne Russell, IBF champion Richardson Hitchins, or Theofimo Lopez for his WBO belt.
Pitbull Cruz could have fought Ryan Garcia last Friday night, but he did not want to negotiate the fight with him while he would still fight Fierro on February 1. Cruz now has to kick himself because he would not only make more money to fight Ryan, but he would have won the WBA ‘ordinary’ welterweight title. If he had waged and won the Garcia battle, he would have been in the position to make big money in a re -broadcast against another popular fighter.
What Pitbull does not need is to hold on to the re -broadcast against contenders just because one of his fights was competitive or controversial. He must continue, challenging for world titles.
Pitbull style
Cruz looked like a small Mike Tyson against Fierero. It was impressive how he adjusted when Fierro kept missing him with his head shots. Cruz focused on his body, and he couldn’t do anything to get out of the way of those shots. Once again, the judges pitbull did not give credit to his body work, because they would have achieved a running decision if they had it.
Fierro lost two of his last three battles and is on his way to the status of the travel man. His other defeat was against Alfredo Santiago last June, and it was a wide defeat of ten round. If anyone has to regain Fierro, it must be Santiago.
