We’re three weeks into TGL, the new tech-infested simulator Golf League backed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, and everyone has an opinion. shot clock it’s wonderful! What is it hammer? it’s SETTLING Is it really that difficult?
Reviews are flooding inincluding these from two veteran TV golf personalities, Peter Kostis and Gary McCord, who recently shared “Kostis & McCord: Their Off Rockers“A golf production.
“There’s potential,” Kostis said, enamored after watching debut week. “It’s going to feed into what people want these days, which is quick, short, short, a few hours up and down. That said, I thought it was complete chaos. The shot clock was OK, maybe they should give you a few more seconds. There was no context for anything. There was a shot, blah blah, six guys talking to each other.”
Kostis also wondered if playing normal, iconic or well-known golf holes instead of arcade ones might be more interesting to viewers.
“It was like going to Las Vegas and going to the arena and seeing a Weird Al Yankovic concert,” McCord said. “The concert is a piece of shit, but the technology is incredible because when you go into the arena you don’t really see who’s there. You’re doing it. (looks around) And that’s exactly what I got with that. It has nothing to do with golf, this is a recreation of the technology in front of 1,500 people in a small stadium. “
TGL drew 919,000 average viewers its first week, but grew to 1.05 million its second week (helped by Tiger Woods’ debut). Last week, she fell to 682,000 average viewers. However, there is promise for Week 4, when Woods’ team faces the one led by Rory McIlroy.
“I think as this thing goes and matures and resets itself all the time, I think they’re going to find a formula there that will make it watchable,” McCord said.
