Is Shakur Stevenson taking the easy route to Tank Davis?

Richardson Hitchins says he does not consider the February 22nd contest between WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and Floyd Schofield a “good fight” because of the mismatch in skills.

Hitchins feels that Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) is a “entertaining fight” because of his ability to hurt Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs), but it is NOT the same kind of high-level matchup compared to Stevenson facing Gervonta Davis.

Fan backlash

The criticism fans and the media have about Shakur picking 22-year-old prospect Schofield is that he’s facing a guy who’s never fought anyone but hasn’t gotten a world title shot yet not.

Many fighters in the top 15 come from major amateur backgrounds, such as 2020 Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz or Keyshawn Daviswhich Shakur could have fought but didn’t. He chose Schofield, and it looks bad in the eyes of the fans, giving them the impression that he is making sure he doesn’t lose before he payout fight Tank Davis in 2025.

This is the fight the 27-year-old Shakur is hyped for, so it’s understandable why he doesn’t want to take any risks until then. It’s also disappointing because he talks about being the best in the division, but these kinds of fights betray him to be a fake.

“Not a good fight”

“I don’t think it’s a big fight at all. I think it’s an entertaining fight because of Schofield,” said Richardson Hitchins iFL TV about the clash between WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and Floyd Schofield on February 22.

“A lot of times people make up fights, and then they go watch the fight, and it’s not what you all believe or what you want it to be. That’s the job of the media. I’m not here to give anybody free play It’s for the media and the promoters.

“It’s not a good fight at all. It’s just a man with a pair of gloves who has the ability to hurt another human being, which is Shakur. That makes it interesting, but it comes down to skill to skill. It’s not a big fight,” Hitchins said of the Stevenson vs. Schofield showdown said.

“It is not a Bivol vs. Beterbiev not. It’s not a Shakur and Tank Davis, where you have two guys who are technical and have the IQ. It’s not a big fight, period. It’s just an entertaining fight,” Hitchins said.

Hitchins is right about the Shakur-Schofield battle. It’s an entertaining game, but not a good one. Schofield has looked too poor in his recent games.

Schofield’s last four opponents

– Rene Tellez Giron
– Estuary Serum
– Ricardo López Torres
– Haskell Rhodes

You’d have to be an ultra-hard boxing fan to know who those guys are, and that tells you everything you need to know about Schofield’s qualifications for his fight against Shakur. He doesn’t deserve a title shot or the #2 ranking he’s been given by the WBA.
