Is Shakib Al Hasan’s life in danger? BCB president washes his hands of security


The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Farooq Ahmed has issued a public statement saying that the board cannot give guarantees. Shakib Al Hasan As security is not in their hands when they return to Bangladesh.

Shakib Al Hasan confirmed his retirement from Test and T20I cricket earlier in the day. He said that he has already played his last T20I during the T20 World Cup 2024 and will play his last Test against Dhaka. South Africa in October if possible.

However, Shakib Al Hasan made it clear that if he doesn’t get an opportunity to play against the Test match south Africa at home, then Second Test against India at Green Park in Kanpur it will be his last for the nation.

Shakib Al Hasan said he was worried about his safety while speaking to reporters. So he needs to convince the board that he will be allowed to leave the country after the match against South Africa.

However, BCB president Faruque Ahmed denied being responsible for Shakib Al Hasan’s security. After a four-hour board meeting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Faruque Ahmed said the Bangladesh government will have to ensure the safety of the star all-rounder as BCB cannot do anything.

“We don’t have (Shakib’s security). Security has to come from the government and it has to take its own decision. We can’t say anything about his security. We have no capacity to provide security to any individual,” Faruque said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Faruque Ahmed further said that they would be happy to play Shakib Al Hasan’s last Test match at home but the higher authorities should ensure his safety. He also said that BCB cannot make any exit plan to leave the country comprehensively without the permission of the government.

“I am neither the agency nor the police nor the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). The security issue should be clarified by the government as we cannot say anything from the board.”

“Shakib is going through a tough time personally, so we can’t say much from our side. Like him, even I think it can’t be better if he can play his last Test from here, but his safety needs to be assured. The higher authorities by.

“He’s going through a tough time. He felt it was the right time to take his last Test and we respect his decision.”

The reason Shakib Al Hasan is facing all this trouble is because he is an MP in the Awami League-led government and he is also implicated in a protest-related murder.

Talking about Shakib’s international career, he is undoubtedly the greatest cricketer to come out of Bangladesh. He has so far played 70 Tests, 247 ODIs and 129 T20Is for the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, scoring 4600, 7570 and 2551 runs and 242, 317 and 149 wickets respectively.
