Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields, the two-time Olympic gold medalist with an amateur record of 63-1, and only loses to Savanah Marshall, which she would defeat in the pro ranks, is definitely one of the best female boxers in the amateurs.
The question is whether she is the biggest women’s boxer ever? In her most recent battle on July 26, she defended her IBF, WBO, WBF and WBC World heavyweight titles and defeated the IBF World Light Heavyweight Champion Lani ‘The Smiling Assassin’ Daniels, 11-2-2. One commentator said ‘Shields is the best female boxer (either in the world or today). It wasn’t the first time I heard it.
According to this author, I do not agree that she is the best of all time. I felt that Lucia ‘was the Dutch destroyer’ Rijer with 17-0 with 14 downturn from the Netherlands was the best of all time. She was admitted to the Ibhof. She held the IBO and WIBF World Super Lightweight titles.
Another Ann ‘Brown Sugar’ Wolfe, 24-1 with 16 downtime, held by the IBA and Wiba World Light Heavyweight Champion of Waco, Texas, was, in my opinion, the heaviest female boxer.
In December of 2018, at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall, Shields decided the WBC and WBO World Middeeight Champion’s Christina Hammer, 24-0 with a fairly large margin. The only thing I remember was that every time Hammer went on the offense, referee Sparkle Lee, also Afro -American, occurred to prevent her from getting more than a punch or two.
In the locker room, I said her promoter Tom Loeffler before entering the locker room after the fight, and he told me not to tell her. After leaving, I told Hammer ‘you are still the world champion, every time you started hitting, the referee has entered’.
Hammer did not fight again for ten months and only four times afterwards before he went against opponents with an average record of 12-8-2, 6-3-1, 3-1 and 6-3. Never fight for a world title again, or get a re -broadcast. Some people would tell me that the decision was wide, and why would she get a re -broadcast? They also did not agree with the referee’s actions.
I could call others like Laila ‘She Beingin’ Ali ’24 -0 World Super Middleweight Champion and Jacqui Frazier Lyde, 13-1. Ali has not fought since 2007, and Shields is talking about the fight against her, although he did not fight in about 18 years. There are also others I could call, and hope that readers can, in their opinion, call others, the best ever. I look forward to their opinions.
