Punjab Kings (PBKS) mounted a spectacular chase to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by six wickets with seven balls to spare in the run fest at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. After SRH posted an impressive 219/6, PBKS scored explosive half-centuries from Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh followed by a captain’s knock from Shreyas Iyer to seal their third win. IPL 2026.
SRH innings: Abhishek Sharma’s blitz
PBKS, who first chose the bowl, was immediately put to the sword. SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head added an amazing 120 runs in just 49 balls for the first wicket. Abhishek was the aggressor, smashing 74 off 28 deliveries (5 fours, 8 sixes) at a strike rate of 264.29, while Bash contributed a quick 23 off 38.
Skipper Ishan Kishan (27 off 17) and Heinrich Klaasen (39 off 33) added 47 runs after back-to-back openers fell to part-time bowler Shashank Singh. A late cameo from Aniket Verma (9 off 18) pushed SRH to 219/6. Arshdeep Singh (2/50) and Shashank Singh (2/20) were the pick of the bowlers, while Marco Jansen (0/40) and Yuzvendra Chahal (0/33) remained wicketless.
PBKS chase: Shreyas Iyer’s quiet finish
Chasing 220, PBKS openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh came out all guns blazing. The duo put on 99 runs in just 38 balls for the first wicket. Arya smashed 57 off 20 balls (5 fours, 5 sixes) at a staggering strike rate of 285 while Prabhsimran hit 51 off 25 balls (4 fours, 5 sixes). Their offense helped PBKS to a 93/0 run on power plays.
After both openers fell to Shivang Kumar (3/33), Cooper Connolly (11) departed cheaply. But Shreyas Iyer took over the chase with an unbeaten 69 off 33 balls (6 fours, 5 sixes). He found able support from Nehal Wadhera (14 off 14) and Shashank (16 off 9). Iyer brought up his fifty in just 25 balls and ended the game in style, He scored the winning runs in the 19th.
Iyer was also adjudged player of the match for his brilliant knock.
