IPL 2026 Auction: LIVE Updates

The countdown is on for one of the most anticipated events in the cricket calendar! The IPL 2026 Auction Today, Tuesday 16 December 2025, will start at 14:30 IST in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Teams will compete to fill the 77 available spots (including 31 overseas spots) with a remaining purse of ₹237.55 crore. This mini-auction promises intense bidding wars as franchises strategically fill key holes in their rosters.

Money matters: Who are the big spenders?

The two franchises enter the auction with a significant financial advantage, setting the stage for aggressive bidding:

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): Leading the charge with the biggest purse of ₹64.30 crore and 13 slots to fill. They are ready for a major restructuring.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK): Not far behind, the Yellow Army has a substantial purse of €43.40 and 9 slots to round out their ranks.

At the other end of the spectrum, Mumbai Indians (MI) leaving the smallest purse of just ₹ 2.75 crore to fill their 5 slots, indicating a focus on niche, budget-friendly options.

Unlike a mega-auction, franchises will aim high, focusing on specific skill sets and team balance rather than a complete overhaul. Distinguished veterans like it Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis the other star is not in the auction pool, which could raise the price of overseas players.
