Insider says market is heating up for 1 MLB free agent

Juan Soto’s pitching was the main story for much of the Major League Baseball offseason as it began after the World Series.

After the New York Mets signed Soto to a $765 million deal over 15 years, the remaining free agents began signing with new teams through the 2025 season.

While most of the big name players have already signed, there are a select few who remain available.

One of those players comes from the Mets, as their first baseman Pete Alonso is a free agent this offseason.

Most people probably thought Alonso would return to the Mets, but that may no longer be the case, and MLB Insider’s Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon revealed the latest on the Alonso market.

According to Rosenthal and Sammon’s B/R Walk-Off via “X,” Alonso’s market is heating up.

At first, many assumed Alonso would stay with the Mets, but now reports include the Toronto Blue Jays and another mystery team involved in discussions.

Alonso played all 162 games for the Mets in 2024, where he batted .240 with 34 home runs, 88 RBI and a .788 OPS.

The popular right-handed power threat could provide some much-needed home runs for a Blue Jays team that finished last in the American League East in 2024.

While the Mets are still in the discussion stage, where Alonso will land is less than before.

Alonso is a name to watch as the MLB offseason progresses toward the start of the 2025 season.
