Insider Says 1 Free Agent Starter Has ‘Unicorn Pitch’

Baseball at Pitchers Mound

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in the World Series and ended the MLB 2024 season.

Now that all the games have been played, attention has turned to this offseason’s free agent class.

With so much talent available, Corbin Burns stands out among the top starters.

An MLB insider recently explained why Burns is the best starter on the market.

“Corbin Burns’ cutter is truly a unicorn pitch,” Ryan Spielbergs said via MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM.

Burns is in his first season with the Orioles after playing for the Milwaukee Brewers since entering the league in 2018.

He had a solid year with Baltimore, starting 32 games and going 15-9 with a 2.92 ERA and 181 strikeouts in 194.1 innings.

The Orioles added Burns last offseason in an attempt to get past the first round of the playoffs after being swept by the Texas Rangers in the 2023 ALDS.

Although Burns was dominant in his first postseason start against the Kansas City Royals, the Orioles couldn’t get the bats going and ended up losing 1-0 en route to another sweep.

Burns pitched eight innings, allowing five hits and one run while walking one and striking out three.

That performance showed other teams that Burns could be a postseason pitcher.

Now, taking his unicorn cutter into free agency, it’s likely that many teams will be interested.
