The New York Mets entered the offseason after being swept in the National League Championship Series.
After nearly reaching the World Series, the Mets took the offseason by storm, signing free agent Juan Soto from the New York Yankees.
Along with Soto, the Giants added pitchers Clay Holmes and Frankie Montas and outfielder Jose Siri.
One player the Majors have yet to bring back is Pete Alonso, and MLB insider Ken Rosenthal recently revealed why the first baseman has yet to sign with a team.
“The problem seems to be with the Mets, and probably with other teams, is that Alonso is approaching 30,” Rosenthal said, via Foul Territory.

Rosenthal apparently believes Alonso wants a long-term contract, and since he recently turned 30, teams are reluctant to commit to such a deal.
Alonso has played all six seasons of his career in New York, and Rosenthal said he believes he is likely to return to the Mets in 2025.
However, the insider also wouldn’t be surprised if a dark horse team swoops in to sign him.
In 2024, Alonso appeared in all 162 games and batted .240 with 34 home runs, 88 RBI and a .788 OPS.
The Mets will be trying to win their third World Series title, and Alonso’s raw power has proven to be an asset in the postseason.
