Insider identifies the most likely team to sign Pete Alonso

The New York Mets made an amazing run to the National League Championship Series, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies in the playoffs before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

With the excitement of nearly making the World Series, the Mets have added several key players to their roster for the 2025 season.

Some of those additions include outfielders Juan Soto and Jose Siri, as well as pitchers Clay Holmes and Frankie Montas.

Another name Mets fans are waiting for is first baseman Pete Alonso, who has yet to sign with the team as a free agent.

MLB insider Jon Heyman recently revealed which team he thinks will go with Alonso.

“The Mets, to me, seem like the most likely team for Alonso,” Heyman said, via the B/R Walk-Off .

Alonso is a fan favorite in New York after spending six seasons with the team since entering the league in 2019.

Heyman says the Mets don’t want to give Alonso the six- or seven-year contract extension he’s looking for, but they want to bring him back.

In 2024, Alonso appeared in all 162 games and batted .240 with 34 home runs, 88 RBI and a .788 OPS.

Although Alonso had a bit of a down season, the proven power threat has been a staple for the Mets over the last few seasons.

The giants will weigh up all their options, although the ultimate goal is likely to be to sign Alonso.
