Former Naoya Inoue Knockout victim TJ Doheny says Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis would be too much for the Japanese star if the two fight at 135.
Boxing fans insisted that Inoue should go up to Super Featherweight (130) or lightweight (135) to stare at Tank Davis in a mega battle to prove who the pound-by-pound #1 is in the sport.
Inoue did not go along with the program, and chose to stay rooted on 122, with the opposition in this dead, lifeless section. He showed no motivation to move to 126 to fight against the dangerous featherweights, and of course that does not happen.
Naoya needs a complete head transplantation To place one of the brave fighter’s brains from the past in his body to give him the daring risk we saw of greats like Muhammad Ali. It will be interesting to see that inoue takes two weight classes up to 130 to meet Tank Davis halfway at Super Featherweight as a catch for them to prove who is the best dog in the sport.
Doheny feels that there is too much weight and size that separates Tank Davis (30-0, 28 COs) and Inoue (29-0, 26 COs) for ‘Monster’ to have a chance. The Ireland native Doheny thinks 126 is the upper “ceiling” of Naoya for what he can do in the sport.
Inoue’s ceiling
‘Tank is an absolute dog, but if they were in the same weight class it would be a crack fight. But there is too much of a gap. I think 126 is the ceiling of inoue, I really do it, ”TJ Doheny said Pro Boxing fans When asked if Naoya Inoue would get a chance against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis if he went up to 135 to fight against him.
It is a pity that inoue would never go for this idea because it would be nice to see how he and Tank were going on in a struggle for the top position in the sport. Fans are not interested in seeing how Inoue against fighters like Ye Joon Kim, Doheny, Sam Goodman and Luis Nery.
