Beach Pebble, Caliph. – The Pedestrian cup It’s playing for the 50’s. For the first time, one of the captains is a professional. The captain of the UK and Ireland is a Scottish named Dean Robertson, who returned in favor after playing at the 1993 Walker Cup and won the Italian Open of 1999 from a shot Padraig Harrington. He now runs the Golf program at the University of Stirling, Scotland.
The American captain is an eternal amateur, Nathan Smith, 47, winner of the five Usga Titles, four middle wins and a four -ball title. He is an insurance seller. He has been in the pipeline for this position for half decades or longer. He was asked on Friday afternoon if he thought SH.BA would ever have a professional golf player as a Walker Cup captain.
“This could open the door to some different things,” he said. “I would first say that there are so many deserved boys who are still amateurs to be Walker Cup captains.”
Stewart Hagestadwho in 34 is the oldest member of the American team, was sitting near Smith as the captain spoke those words. He is playing in his fifth Walker cup here Cypress And he would be a shock if he is not captain somewhere in the decade or two, especially if he never returns in favor, which is almost certainly the case.

Smith went on, “But you would never close the door for this,” the idea of an American professional as captain of the Walker Cup. “This can happen one day, with the right player, much achieved. It can happen, for sure.”
Smith was asked: “How do you think Tiger Woods Would it be as captain of the Walker Cup? “
With the chance you are not familiar with the USGA credentials of Woods, he won three consecutive US Junior titles, then won three direct US amateurs, and as a professional has won three US openings. Next year, he has the right to play in his first US Open. He also played at the 1995 Walker Cup, when the US lost to GB & I at PORTHCAWL ROYALin Wales. This is likely to climb to his crawl. One of his regular refrens is, “I love to win, but I hate to lose more.”
Smith took a nanosekond to consider Woods as a Captain Walker Cup. Smith is from Western Pennsylvania, such as Arnold Palmer. Understanding is a way of life there.
“He would probably be very good,” Smith said, before adding, “What do you think?”
