Robert Lewandowski has admitted he was completely stunned after training with Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal for the first time.
The Barça duo have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, with their attacking displays helping the Barça lead the La Liga title race and winning three of their four Champions League games so far.
Yamal has enjoyed an incredible breakout year in 2024, becoming Barça’s new great hope for the future while also playing an important role in Spain’s victory at Euro 2024. He is still only 17, but Lewandowski has revealed how shocked the teenager was when he first saw his talent.
Speaking on the latest episode ofPresents Rio Ferdinand podcast, the Poland international said: “The first time I saw him in a first-team training session, I was 15 years old.
“It was the first time I saw someone like that in my life, because I’ve seen many talented young players, but for the first time I said ‘Wow.’ Who is this kid? It’s impossible to be so good and so smart. at this age.”
Yamal has already scored five goals and provided seven assists in 12 La Liga games so far this season, while also scoring for the first time in La Liga. Champions League during the 2-1 loss to Monaco.
He has linked up exceptionally well with Lewandowski, who has already hit the back of the net an astonishing 19 times in all competitions for Barça in 2024/25.
However, Yamal is currently sidelined with an ankle problem and missed Spain’s games during the international break in November. He is a doubt to face Celta Vigo on Saturday night, but Lewandowski is expected to be fit despite missing Poland’s games over the past two weeks.
