ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Meeting Falls Flat; BCCI and PCB go to war

On Saturday, November 30, on his social media account X (formerly known as Twitter) Rashid Latif confirmed that there is no ICC emergency board meeting today as both the BCCI and the PCB are away to discuss the Champions Trophy with their foreign ministries. need more time. 2025 moves.

Rashid Latif wrote in X: “According to information, there is no ICC emergency council meeting today. It will be tomorrow or the day after… BCCI and PCB need more time to discuss with the foreign ministries,” he said.

Speculation after the meeting was that the ICC Board meeting was postponed to Saturday with the PCB being urged to adopt the hybrid model. According to media reports, if they refuse, Pakistan could be kicked out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

PCB rejects hybrid model at ICC Board meeting

Friday’s meeting was cut short after a public statement by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who reiterated that a “hybrid” model would not be accepted. On the other hand, BCCI is adamant about not visiting Pakistan due to lack of government permission.

Mohsin Naqvi, who was in Dubai to advance Pakistan’s position on Thursday, reportedly attended the meeting in person, while BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who is set to take over as ICC president from December 1, attended online.

A senior administrator of the country, a full member of the ICC, who attended the meeting, was quoted by PTI as saying: “The council held a short meeting today. All parties continue to work towards a positive solution for Champions Cup 2025 and the Board is expected to reconvene on Saturday and continue to meet over the next few days.”

ICC wants Pakistan to adopt hybrid model for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

According to PTI, the Pakistan Cricket Board has been directed by the ICC to adopt a hybrid model for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, otherwise the tournament may continue without Pakistan. A source in the ICC revealed that no broadcaster wants to cover the event without India’s presence.

The next meeting will take place only if the PCB agrees on a hybrid model for the eight-nation tournament. However, when the meeting was adjourned on November 29, the date for the next session is said to be undecided. The next meeting may take longer than expected, extending into next week to resolve the India-Pakistan issue.
