Osleys Iglesias will fight Vladimir Shishkin in an IBF Super Middeeight title Eliminator to determine the compulsory challenger for champion Canelo Alvarez on September 4 at the Montreal Casino in Montreal, Canada.
This is a big step for the Cuban Talent Iglesias (13-0, 12 COs), which under the radar is fighting against mainly veterans and unknowns in Canada and Germany since becoming professional in 2019. Iglesias, 27, is ready to put himself in a position to fight for the IBF title.
Iglesias’s knockout power
“The tornado is unstoppable. On September 4, I will overcome, defend my IBO title and become the IBF -sheltered challenger. Step by step, belt for belt, I will be upstairs soon,” Osleys Iglesias promises.
Iglesias, known for his one -off power, knocked out his last five opponents within five rounds. One of them was the well-known former middleweight world title-out-of-day Marcelo Coceres, who destroyed Osley in one round. Coceres is the man who dropped Edgar Berlanga in the ninth round of their fight in 2021.
Shishkin (16-1, 10 COs) is at the tip of 2 IBF, and comes from a very dubious unanimous losing loss of 12 round to William Scull in October in Germany. He exceeded Scull in each round, and he seems to have done more than enough to win a wide exclusion decision. Surprisingly, the judges gave it to Scull.
The IBF chose to keep Shishkin despite the loss. So, he now has a chance to secure a profitable world title against Canelo if he wins against Osley on September 4.
IBF title implications
If he knows how the IBF champion has acted in the past, he will avoid fighting Iglesias as he becomes mandatory. As such, Alvarez will be stripped of his IBF title, just like when he chose not to defend against William Scull.
Iglesias will then be increased to the IBF champion status outside the ring. Hopefully the scenario doesn’t play out because fans want to see Canelo get his fist -ware test at 168, because he has had a fairly easy ride since he came to the division in 2020.
