“You have to enjoy what you’re doing, and if you’re passionate about what you’re doing, you have to keep going, and that’s what I’m going to do,” Wawrinka said. Nicolas Albek of SpilXperten after his 575th career ATP win.
“Motivation must come from within. If you have to force yourself to stay motivated, it means you are not passionate enough about what you are doing. It’s not easy every day, but I love being a tennis player, so it’s easy to push myself.”
Wawrinka says retirement is not in his plans, at least not for now.
“I’ve said that I’m getting older, and of course I’m nearing the end, but I’m still playing well and I’m competitive when I play,” he said. “I love what I’m doing and I love waking up and going to training and still having the opportunity to play in such a beautiful tournament like here. As long as I’m enjoying this, I’ll keep pushing a little.
“I think it’s great to be a tennis player and when I was a kid I dreamed of doing it as a job. I had the chance to win many trophies, even many big trophies and I had the chance to achieve more of what I call my dream. I will keep pushing.”
