I know I have controversial views. I think expensive golf shoes are cool. I also think music is great on the golf course.
But I know a group of you disagree with the latter. That’s why I’ve been looking to find a great way to listen to music on the golf course without annoying others.
Headphones? No. Too simple, not versatile enough.
Enter sunglasses or in this case smart glasses.
reviewing the RayBan’s first foray into the world of smart glasses a while back and I wondered if they were the future of golf lessons.
Recently I put brand new The Oakley Meta Vanguard Sunglasses are on trial and they might be an accessory that no one can get mad at.
Here’s what I mean.
- They have a camera that sits just above the bridge of the nose. It takes great photos, stellar video and even slow motion, which I found great for diagnosing my heavy indoor intake.
- Of course, they connect to your phone so you can listen to Hans Zimmer’s greatest hits without disturbing your playing partners.
- It connects to Garmin devices (which I wear every day) to give you updated stats during your workout. I found it great for interval sessions where I wanted to track my heart rate.
- And they work great as golf sunglasses too. Excellent coverage and wrapping.
I’m not saying the Oakley Meta Vanguard will fix your swing overnight. But the ability to film clear, high-quality FPV footage has finally led me to diagnose some errors in my delivery. This is a win.
And being able to soothe myself to a few songs from The Last Samurai without disturbing the dad across from me who just yelled at his 14-year-old for hitting a fiddle? This is also a big win.
That, along with the connectivity features to my Garmin watch and the fact that I need a good pair of sunglasses (because I keep sitting on my other pairs), makes this a great accessory for me, one that will stay in my golf bag for the foreseeable future.
