Ruben Amorim is expected to be officially unveiled as Manchester United’s new manager soon, although it’s clear the appointment has been a difficult decision for him.
The 39-year-old Portuguese will step out of his comfort zone, given that he has never managed a club outside his country.
Even during his playing career, Amorim only ventured outside of Portugal on one occasion, and that was for a short stint in the Qatari Stars League.

That kind of resume may not sit well with Red Devils supporters who will be desperate for success after the Erik ten Hag’s abject failure.
That said, the fact that it seems to have turned up its nose in a move rivals Man City will almost certainly endear him to the Old Trafford faithful.
Amorim is understood to take over at United after the international break at the end of November, and the Sporting manager spoke to Portuguese media to explain why he felt the move to the Premier League was the right thing to do do
“I think all coaches need it. I think in everyone’s life, and also in yours (journalists), there are times when we are doing very well in life but we lack something or want something or prove something thing”, he said. more football.
“And we have to take a step forward in things that destabilize us, that we don’t know if it will work or not, if we are or not ruining what is good about us, but I think everyone feels it.
“You and the coaches go through the same thing in your life.”
So it’s a brave choice by a young manager who will immediately have pressure on his shoulders.
He must prove beyond any doubt that he has what it takes to manage such a historic institution and be the man to finally return the glory days to the Theater of Dreams.
If he can’t do that, ten Hag will follow out of the Old Trafford exit further down the line.
