Richardson Hitchins continues his public feud with Teofimo Lopez, boasting his victory over George Kambosos Jr., a fighter Teo lost to in 2021.
The back-and-forth started earlier today when Teofimo (22-1, 13 KOs) took a shot at Richardson, saying on X, “Heavy like 170+ pounds heavy.” This comment was in response to Hitchins boasting that he was “heavy”.
Hitchins won’t let it go
Hitchins has called out WBO light welterweight champion Lopez repeatedly since leaving Matchroom Boxing following his eighth-round knockout victory over the outmatched, struggling Kambosos Jr. on June 14, 2025.
Hitchins made a big deal about the win, forgetting that Kambosos had a 1-3 record in his previous four fights when he fought him. He would have more reason to brag if he showed some courage and fought Gary Antuanne Russell or Subriel Matias. Bragging about his victory over Kambosos makes Hitchins sound smug.

Desperate for a big fight
The outcry from Lopez after he chose not to re-sign with Matchroom was a sign of desperation on Hitchin’s part. When he decided not to perform with promoter Eddie Hearn again, he apparently believed there would be a rush for his services.
Richardson didn’t even get one big money payout fight like Edgar Berlanga got after opting not to re-sign with Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing after his first round knockout win Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz on March 15, 2025. Turki Alalshikh used Berlanga as the opponent for Hamzah Sheeraz after he became a free agent.
Reality Check for Hitchins
Hitchins should forget bothering Teofimo, hoping he will throw him a bone. It’s not going to happen. Teo is picky and only fights popular fighters or those he is 100% sure he can beat. Hitchins fits neither of those categories.
More realistic options for Hitchins
- Ernesto Mercado
- Gary Antoine Russell
- Keyshawn Davis
- Subriel Mathias
- Alberto Puello
- Jamaine Ortiz
