Filip Hrgovic’s Fight of the Night show in defeating heavyweight David Adelye last Saturday night in Riyadh had a disadvantage, while he had a cut to win a unanimous 10 round decision. HRGOVIC won with the scores 99-90, 99-90 and 98-91.
Philip’s history of eye injuries
The 2016 Olympic bronze medalist HRGOVIC (19-1, 14 COs) was cut in the second round over his right eye from a stitch by Adelye (14-2, 13 COs). Although Filip coach Abel Sanchez did an admirable job to control the bleeding, it was worrying to see the injury occur so early. It was the third straight battle that Hrgovic was cut over one of his eyes.
In addition to the cut, the 6’6 ″ Hrgovic, 33, was shocked by nobility in the eighth round after the British fighter dropped him off with a 10-punch flaze after he knocked him down.

Hrgovic defended the storm to escape the crazy round. For the remaining two rounds, he fought smartly and walked away from Adelye’s wildlife pushing to hone the victory. The eighth round alone made the competition the night of the night in the eyes of many fans.

“Hrgovic is the kind of man who has to fight in Saudi Arabia, where he has fought four out of his last six fights, or is on his way. He has nowhere else a fanbase. He must hope that Turki Alalshikh still holds him to put him on some of these fights,” says Mannix.

A test for Moses Itauma?
Turki did not mention what plans he has for Hrgovic’s next battle, but he would be a good option for Moses Itauma to use as a test for the 20-year-old man to see how he handled a fighter who was striking.
“You have to bring him in with another one of the B-level guys before we start talking about him at a high level. He is still easily cut, ‘Mannix said of Hrgovic. “In his loss of Dubois, he cut both eyes. In his victory over Joe Joyce, he had a cut over his left eye. In his victory over nobility, he had a cut over his right eye. If you see that a man has cut in his last three fights, it would worry me, ‘says Mannix.
